Fall is a season for change and that means changing road conditions. Extremes of heat and cold, more frequent fog and other hazards can make driving a challenge.

Here are eight great ways DW Campbell Tire & Auto Service Centers suggest you get the most out of the fall season without any unpleasant driving surprises:

1. Watch for Animals - Fall is a great time for spotting wildlife as deer get more active and woodland creatures prepare for winter. While that may be pleasant for weekend hiking trips it can be dangerous when animals on the move cross paths with your vehicle. Slow down and watch for eyes shining in your headlights during evening hours.

2. Back-to-School - Autumn marks the end of summer break for nearly every school system which means kids on sidewalks, in the street and in busy parents' cars, trucks, SUVs, and minivans. Take care and slow down, especially in school zones and neighborhoods. You may save a child's life.

3. Fog - When warm days become cool nights the sun lifts moisture into the air and condenses it, making fog. Fog not only reduces visibility but it can make road surfaces slick. Fall is a great time to have your tires and wipers checked to make sure you can see the road and stay on it, too. If your headlights are in need of restoration this is a good time to take care of that, also.

4. Frozen Fog - When the temperature drops just below freezing your cold windshield will naturally collect fog and turn it to ice. If you are heading out on a foggy morning make sure to let your windshield warm up before you hit the road.

5. Leafy Streets - It may sound silly, but leaves can be slippery and can cause traction issues. Not only that, fallen leaves can hide branches, rocks and other debris that can be more hazardous to your car and your safety. Feel free to barrel through piles of fallen leaves in your back yard but use caution when driving through leaves on the road.

6. Icy Bridges - Everyone has seen the sign, "Bridge may ice before road." On a hot summer night in Atlanta that sign is good for a laugh. But in the fall temperatures can drop quickly and rain can quickly turn to ice on bridges. When the temperature is below 35 degrees use a little more caution on bridges and elevated roadways.

7. Darker Days - As the days get shorter and the incidence of the sun drops visibility suffers. Dusk and dawn are a little dimmer and daylight hours are harder to come by.   Take care to prepare for low visibility.

8. Underinflated Tires - Tire pressure is a function of temperature, so when it gets colder outside your tire pressure will drop. Since the weather gets colder and colder as winter approaches it is a good idea to check your tire pressure and correct it with every second fuel up. Properly inflated tires handle better, grip better and last longer.
